Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Showdown With Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.
Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their initial championship series since 1993 by beating the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing by two runs, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 victory in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the anticipated World Series.
"I'm thrilled for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "It's truly an amazing experience."
The veteran has now slugged twenty-three post-season home runs, making him third all-time behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another person anywhere that I want up in that situation except for Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the sole team yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson stated "certainly that it's painful" after his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but commended their work this season.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we ended up on the losing end of this game," he added.
Toronto's team won the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
