The artist has donated the entirety of his £25,000 Mercury Prize prize money to the MVT, which operates to preserve the United Kingdom's small concert spaces.

He was given the award on October 16 as his third album his work was chosen as the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role small stages played in his initial steps.

"I personally would not have achieved what I am doing today if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was starting out," stated Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have shut down – roughly 16% of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, major artists like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to support thirty-eight small stages across the UK.

The donation helped venues that were confronting potential shutdown due to issues arising from flooding, fires and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, court cases and neighbor objections.

Some locations were granted funding support in upgrading infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted performers and audiences.

"The notion that money from shows in big venues backs the independent spots, where it all starts for artists like me, is just logical," the star has said.

The musician is not the first artist to give his Mercury Prize funds to good deeds.

When Pulp received the prize in the year 1996 for their album their work, lead singer the singer declared that the band would contribute their cash to the organization the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer she shared her bounty across a few organizations, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I contributed a grand to the center, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they needed new equipment," Ms Dynamite shared with a publication.

Two years ago, the band gave their funds to the local youth club that supported their act, as well as other independent music bodies.

Additionally winners that year M People contributed their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was identified with the condition.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," stated vocalist Heather Small. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our victory affected somebody else's life."

Recently, the MVT shared it had protected several grassroots venues in the South East, by transferring them to local control.

One venue in that area and the other in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and supporters who buy "ownership units" in the venues.
