Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the high-speed corner before the last turn on to the main straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
