The tally of fatalities from the transport jet which burst into flames and went down has climbed to 13, as confirmed by latest announcements.
Official's Remarks
“On my way to the Teamsters’ memorial service, I received word of a thirteenth victim that lost their life as a result of the plane incident,” expressed the city mayor in a social media post. “My thoughts is with the families, friends and co-workers of all who were killed in this week’s tragedy. We will overcome this together.”
Victims Identified
A release from the carrier named the pilots on board the jet as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.
“Our sympathies are extended to every employee who has been impacted and everyone in our community region – assisting you and ensuring you obtain the attention and assistance you need is our focus,” the company’s message expressed.
Investigation Findings
Government authorities revealed that the freight aircraft’s port side wing caught fire and an power plant fell off just after liftoff from the airfield, resulting in the jet to plummet and erupt into a blaze.
The National Transportation Safety Board has said it is probing the aircraft’s service record, which was in Texas for repairs weeks ahead of the accident.
Aviation data indicated the plane was on the ground in San Antonio, Texas from the start of last month to 18 October.
“We are cognizant that this plane was present in the facility,” said an investigator on the following day, without providing a specific period. “We will review all elements of service that was completed, from the Texas time, all the way to the time of the trip.”
Recovery of Key Evidence
The pilot’s recorder and flight data recorder were retrieved, and the power plant was located on the tarmac.
The recorders – known as flight recorders – were built to endure accident forces and intense fire from blazes, and they looked to be in one piece when found among the crash debris. Authorities plan on analyzing information from the devices.
Aircraft’s last flight details indicated an height of that level and a speed of 210 mph prior to the impact.
Maintenance History
According to FAA files dated 18 September, a crack on a structural piece inside the tank area demanded maintenance.
Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which indicated it supplies aircraft servicing for UPS’s MD-11 and operates a service location in San Antonio, refused to comment, but said it would assist completely when investigators reached out it.
Activities Restart
In the meantime, UPS Worldport services restarted last night with its Next Day Air or evening procedure, representative Jim Mayer stated. The three runways at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also back in operation.
The UPS package handling facility in Louisville is the company’s biggest. The center hires more than twenty thousand workers in the area, manages 300 trips daily and organizes over a huge volume of packages per hour.
Public Support
A memorial was organized on the evening of that date by the area worker’s group, which supports employees at the airfield, the firm’s largest air cargo hub.
The union chapter, which supports UPS workers, commenced the gathering with a period of reflection at 5.14pm, the rough time of the incident previously.
“This tragedy was so unexpected, so unexpected,” the official addressed the assembly of two hundred. “No one had a chance to bid farewell to any of those who we have lost.”
